What is Orlistat?

Orlistat is a tablet you take orally that blocks some of the fat that you consume. This stops the fat from getting absorbed by the body.

Can I take orlistat by itself?

Although it is used to treat obesity, substantial weight cannot be lost from just using the capsules. You must be on a reduced, or low-calorie diet in order for orlistat to take full effect.

How is Orlistat taken?

The medication is taken once, three times a day, preferably one with every main meal. If your meal contains no fat, or if you miss out one of your main meals, then there is no need for you to take the medication.

How effective is Orlistat

In some clinical studies, people who took a variant of the drug, called Xenical, plus a low-calorie diet, lost at least 5% of their body weight.

Is Orlistat just used to treat obesity?

There are a number of weight-related health issues that can be treated by Orlistat. They are

-Decrease the total level of low-density cholesterol

-Improve good to bad ratio of cholesterol

-Reduce blood pressure

-reduce levels of insulin associated with heart disease

-Reduce risk of type 2 diabetes

How much weight can I expect to lose?

This is entirely dependant on how well you stick to your reduced calorie diet. No more than 30% of calories should be taken from fat and a strict physical regime should be kept.

Never take an extra dosage at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
